Indian Kitchen at 2152 MingSheng Road was the venue for the 2021 edition of Yugadi celebration by Shanghai Kannadigaru. Hosted on a Saturday immediately following the official Yugadi festival on April.13th, the weather gods blessed us with a perfect day. Although the Wechat group had been abuzz with anticipation for this event long before, the real “josh” kicked-in the night before when a team of passionate volunteers led by Mohini sent out pictures of the ongoing decoration at the venue. Pictures were shared; festival mood had been set.
The WeChat group was filled with pictures of the yummy breakfast that awaited us all as early as 8am in the morning. We arrived at 9:30am to be welcomed by the volunteers guiding us towards the breakfast area. Let me tell you this: for a South Indian living far away from India, there is nothing more soul-gratifying than savoring Idlis with Sambar/chutney and Indian Chai. Truly a blessing in “Idli” guise. One could easily mistake the ambience at the venue to be a wedding function: the jingle of the ornaments, ladies and gentlemen clad in traditional outfits, the melodious instrumental songs played in the background, fantastic breakfast and the enthusiastic hosts, it had everything a wedding does. This was a clear sign of things to come: it was not to be a regular gathering.
The stairs leading up to the main hall had been decorated with cute little diyas electrifying us at every step. The Ganapati “ idol” was tastefully adorned with flowers. Mango tree leaves and even a few mangoes flying high, supported by a stick of sugarcane did well to convey the Yugadi message. The main stage was set; although not in the “traditional” elevated way. It was at the same level as the rest of the hall, non-intimidating and probably giving a feeling of “Naavu Yellaru Ondhe”. Shivakumar was going around his work of “guest registration” quietly. Mahesh was instrumental in reminding the folks at the breakfast area that this was not a wedding function, after all. We had a program lined up and everyone was expected at the hall to start the events. Guests had now gathered, had their brief hi-hello’s, and soon the chief guest arrived. Dr. N Nandakumar the Consul General of India, Shanghai arrived with his family to grace the occasion. Let the Entertainment begin.
The entertainment scene was enthusiastically co-hosted by Sadashiva and Aparna. Engaging the audience with their wit and humor, they anchored the various events of the day. First up was Bhakthi Geethe by Mrs. Bharathi Simha, who sang melodiously to set a delightful tone to the rest of the show. It was soon followed by a speech from Mr. V Hegde, speaking in Kannada, to welcome everyone assembled. His speech reminded us how lucky we were to be in Shanghai right now, while at the same time expressing concern for loved ones back home in India, where covid-19 is still rampant. He stressed the importance of keeping our culture of celebrations alive, more so for the younger generation. Mr. Mayur took over in English, talking about our close-knit Shanghai Kannadigaru group setup back in 2017, engaging the Kannada community in Shanghai and nearby, with two yearly celebration of Yugadi festival, Kannada Rajyostava and trips in and around Shanghai. He spoke how these gatherings would promote our mission to protect our Naadu (state), Nudi (Language) and Nade (Culture). He requested the Chief guest of the day, Dr. N. Nandakumar and others to light the lamp, officially inaugurating the event.
The Consul General of India, Shanghai and his family were felicitated in a typical Karnataka style by Mr and Mrs Hegde. And then the CGI, Shanghai spoke. It was a thoughtful speech on the significance of India in the world cultural scene. He was visibly proud in mentioning how the world leaders today wish Indians on Holi, Diwali and other Indian festivals, a sign that India has arrived. It was fascinating how he attributed this newfound “importance” to the contributions made by every Indian living in different part of the globe, in whatever way to promote the Indian culture. His message was clear: “No contribution is small”. He also showed a deep sense of gratitude for being in Shanghai and a genuine concern for India and the world in general over the covid-19 crisis, re-iterating Indian PM’s stance on the Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – which sees all creation as a family”.
Up next was a wonderful dance performance to Kannada song “Yugadi Habba” by our two little angels Pranavi and Aishani. They thoroughly entertained the audience with some delightful dance moves. As Mr. Hegde stressed in his speech, its important we involve the younger generation in such celebrations. How and why do we celebrate Yugadi? Which states celebrate it and what are the different names of this festival? All these questions were answered by an informative video prepared by Mrs. Reena; it was concise and improved everyone’s awareness of our Yuga – Adi (New Year) festival. Next up, the children of the Simha family delighted the gathering with their acute sense of musical notes. An Indian festival celebration can never be complete without a group song. A dynamic group entertained us all with melodious numbers like “Chellidaru Malligeya”.
The children who participated in the art competition were awarded prizes by the Consul General. It’s always a pleasure to see young faces brimming with joy when receiving awards. Deepanjali showcased her artwork collections through a video and wowed the audience. It’s wonderful to have such a talented artist amidst our Shanghai Kannadigaru family. Let’s wish her all the best in pursuing this god-gifted talent to greater glory. Mrs. Mohini delivered a formal vote of thanks to everyone assembled and made this event so successful. And by this time the main event that we all were waiting for, one that Sadashiva kept nudging all through his anchoring, was here. Lunch was ready to be served on Bale Yale (banana leaf).
Due to the limited number of seats, lunch would have to be done in batches of around 28-30 people at a time. Traditional banana leaves were placed on tables and then the items arrived one by one: Shavige payasa, salt, pickle, Kosumbari, Palya, Sagu, Puri, Paapad, Puliyogare, Mirchi Bhajji, rice, Sambar, Rasam, Karchikai/Kadabu, curd, and finally the VIP, good old buttermilk was served. It was a feast fit for a king. Whoever wrote “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” was spot on, everyone looked content. What I found interesting about the serving of food was that each of the volunteers had a specific item assigned to be served, so no chaos. As the first batch of diners were winding up, Gangadhar was busy announcing people to use the wash basin on the lower floor, a gentle nudge to make way for the next batch. All of us finally completed the gala feast in 3 batches. What An amazing feeling!.
Let me end with a sincere word of thanks to the fantastic volunteer team. The entire Yugadi celebrations event was managed beautifully. I bet the volunteers toiled very hard to bring this delightful experience to the rest of the Shanghai Kannadiga community. Right from looking for suitable venue & working out a menu (Mayur, Vivek, Sandeepshastri), flyer and banner (Prajwal), activity promotion (Vivek), inviting the chief guest (Mohini, Vittal Mallya), managing the guest list & finances (Sadashiva, Sathish, Reena, Anitha), negotiating and sourcing the banana leaves (Mayur), decorating the venue (Girish, Aravind, Reena, Vikas, Shruthi, Ruthwik), charting out the entertainment events (Reena, Manjunath), registration (Shivakumar, Shruti) hosting (Sadashiva, Aparna), photography (Prajwal, Charan), stage & sound management (Sachin, Rupesh), audience engagement (Mahesh, Gangadhar) etc. I might have still missed out some. Kudos to the entire volunteer team who worked tirelessly in the background, Great job folks! Happy Yugadi once again, everyone!

ಯುಗಾದಿ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ 2021
ಶಾಂಘೈನ ಮಿಂಗ್ಶೆಂಗ್ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ‘ಇಂಡಿಯನ್ ಕಿಚನ್’ ಉಪಹಾರ ಗೃಹವು ಶಾಂಘೈ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ 2021ರ ಯುಗಾದಿ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಆಚರಣೆಯ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 13 ರಂದು ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಯುಗಾದಿ ಹಬ್ಬದ ದಿನವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಅಂದು ಕೆಲಸದ ದಿನವಾದುದರಿಂದ, ಬರುವ ಶನಿವಾರದಂದು ಹಬ್ಬದ ಆಚರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಅಂದು ಪೂರಕವಾದ ಹವಾಮಾನವಾಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಉತ್ಸಾಹಭರಿತವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಂಭ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂದೆ ವೀಚಾಟ್ನಲ್ಲಿ (WeChat) ಬಹಳ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿದ್ದರೂ, ಮೋಹಿನಿ ನೇತೃತ್ವದ ಉತ್ಸಾಹಭರಿತ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರ ತಂಡವು, ಹಿಂದಿನದಿನ, ಶುಕ್ರವಾರ ಸಂಜೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆಗಳ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದಾಗ ನಿಜವಾದ “ಜೋಶ್” ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಯಿತು; ಹಬ್ಬದ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಶಾಂಘೈ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ವೀಚಾಟ್ ಗುಂಪು, ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 8 ಗಂಟೆಗೆಲ್ಲ ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ರುಚಿಕರ ಉಪಾಹಾರದ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿ ಹೋಗಿತ್ತು. ನಾವು ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 9:30ಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ತಕ್ಷಣ, ನಗು ಮುಖದ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ಸ್ವಾಗತವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ಬಂದವರಿಗೆ ಉಪಹಾರ ಮಾಡಲು ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಒಂದಂತೂ ನಿಜ, ಭಾರತದಿಂದ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತೀಯನಿಗೆ, ಸಾಂಬಾರ್/ಚಟ್ನಿ ಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇಡ್ಲಿಯನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಚಹಾ ಸವಿಯುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಆತ್ಮ-ಸಂತೃಪ್ತಿ ಇನ್ನೊಂದಿಲ್ಲ. “ಇಡ್ಲಿ” ನಮಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ನಿಜವಾದ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆಭರಣಗಳ ಝಣಝಣ ಶಬ್ದ, ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಉಡುಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿದ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಮಹನೀಯರು, ಉಪಾಹಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ಸಾಹಿ ಆತಿಥೇಯರು, ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮಧುರ ಹಾಡುಗಳು ಅದ್ಭುತ ಹಬ್ಬದ ವಾತಾವರವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದವು ಹಾಗು ಇವು ಮುಂಬರುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಇವು ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಸಡಗರಗಳ ದ್ಯೋತಕವಾಗಿದ್ದವು.
ಮುಖ್ಯ ಸಭಾಂಗಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಮುದ್ದಾದ ಪುಟ್ಟ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ದೀಪಗಳು ಪ್ರತಿ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲೂ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ವಿದ್ಯುದ್ದೀಕರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. “ಗಣಪತಿ”ಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೂಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಮಾವಿನ ಎಲೆಗಳು, ಮಾವಿನ ಕಾಯಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕಬ್ಬಿನ ಜೊಲ್ಲೆಯಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದ ತೋರಣವು ಯುಗಾದಿ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಾರಿ ಹೇಳುವಂತಿದ್ದವು. ಮುಖ್ಯ ವೇದಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಸಭಾಂಗಣದ ಉಳಿದ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾಯಿತು; “ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ” ಎತ್ತರದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಬಹುಶಃ “ನಾವು ಎಲ್ಲರು ಒಂದೇ” ಎಂಬ ಭಾವನೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಶ್ರೀ ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರು “ಅತಿಥಿ ನೋಂದಣಿ”ಯ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ರಹಸ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಬೆಳಗಿನ ಉಪಾಹಾರ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇದು ವಿವಾಹದ ಕಾರ್ಯವಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನೆನಪಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರವಹಿಸಿದರು. ಮುಂದಿನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ನಿಗದಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದವು ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಲು ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ಸುಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು ಈಗ ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡಿ, ನೆರದಿರುವವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ ಮಾಡುದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು ಸಹ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದರು. ಶಾಂಘೈನ ಭಾರತದ ಕಾನ್ಸುಲ್ ಜನರಲ್ ಡಾ. ಎನ್. ನಂದಕುಮಾರ್ ರವರು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬಸಮೇತ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದರು.
ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀ ಸದಾಶಿವ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಅಪರ್ಣ ರವರು ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ, ತಮ್ಮ ಹಾಸ್ಯ ಚಟಾಕಿಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ನಗುಗಡಲಲ್ಲಿ ತೇಲಿಸುತ್ತ ದಿನದ ವಿವಿಧ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ್ಳನ್ನು ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದರು. ಮೊದಲನೆಯದಾಗಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಭಾರತಿ ಸಿಂಹರವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಇಂಪಾದ ಸ್ವರದಿಂದ ಭಕ್ತಿಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿ, ಅವರು ಉಳಿದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಶುಭಸೂಚನೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ತದನಂತರ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿ ಹೆಗ್ಡೆರವರು ಸೇರಿದ ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ, ನಾವು ಈಗ ಶಾಂಘೈನಲ್ಲಿರಲು ಎಷ್ಟು ಅದೃಷ್ಟಶಾಲಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಇದೇ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಲಾಗದೆ, ಪ್ರೀತಿಪಾತ್ರರನ್ನು ನೋಡಲಾಗದೆ ಎಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಮನನೊಂದಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಈಗ ಕೋವಿಡ್ -19 ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಅತಿರೇಕವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಮನದಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ಯುವ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿಡುವುದು ಎಷ್ಟು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಶ್ರೀ ಮಯೂರ್ ಅವರು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದಿರುವವರಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಾಗತ ಕೋರಿದರು, 2017 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಾದ ಈ ಶಾಂಘೈ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು ಗುಂಪು, ಶಾಂಘೈ ಮತ್ತು ಹತ್ತಿರದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮುದಾಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದರ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾ, ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಯುಗಾದಿ ಹಬ್ಬ ಮತ್ತು ಕನ್ನಡ ರಾಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸವ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಂಘೈ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಪ್ರವಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಆಚರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನೆನೆಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ನಾಡು (ರಾಜ್ಯ), ನುಡಿ (ಭಾಷೆ) ಮತ್ತು ನಡೆ (ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ) ಗಳನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಧ್ಯೇಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ಅವರು ಅಂದಿನ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿ ಡಾ.ಎನ್.ನಂದಕುಮಾರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರರಿಗೆ ದೀಪವನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗಿಸುವಂತೆ ವಿನಂತಿಸಿದರು, ಹೀಗೆ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಚಾಲನೆಯಾಯ್ತು.
ಭಾರತದ ಕಾನ್ಸುಲ್ ಜನರಲ್, ಶಾಂಘೈ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೈಸೂರು ಪೇಟ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಲು ಹೊದೆಸಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಹೆಗ್ಡೆ ಅವರು ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಿದರು. ತದನಂತರ ಕಾನ್ಸುಲ್ ಜನರಲ್ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ಇಂದು ವಿಶ್ವ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಕುರಿತು ಚಿಂತನಶೀಲವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿಹೇಳಿದರು. ಹೋಳಿ, ದೀಪಾವಳಿ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಹಬ್ಬಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವ ನಾಯಕರು ಇಂದು ಭಾರತೀಯರನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ ಪಟ್ಟರು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಲು ಯಾವುದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಭಾರತೀಯರು ನೀಡಿದ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳು ಎಷ್ಟು “ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು” ವಹಿಸುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂಬ ಅವರ ಮಾತು ತುಂಬಾ ಆಕರ್ಷಕವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅವರ ಸಂದೇಶವು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿತ್ತು: “ಯಾವುದೇ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ಚಿಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲ”. ಅವರ ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋವಿಡ್ -19 ಬಿಕ್ಕಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಪಂಚ ಅನುಭವಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸವಾಲುಗಳ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ಕಾಳಜಿಯು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಗೋಚರಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ತತ್ತ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ “ವಸುಧೈವ ಕುಟುಂಬಕಂ” – ಎಲ್ಲ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಕುಟುಂಬವಾಗಿ ನೋಡುವ” ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಪ್ರಧಾನಮಂತ್ರಿಯವರ ನಿಲುವನ್ನು ಪುನರುಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದರು.
ಮುಂದೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಪುಟಾಣಿಗಳಾದ ಪ್ರಣವಿ ಮತ್ತು ಐಶಾನಿ ಅವರು “ಯುಗಾದಿ ಹಬ್ಬಾ” ಎಂಬ ಕನ್ನಡ ಹಾಡಿಗೆ ಅದ್ಭುತ ನೃತ್ಯ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಿದರು, ಅವರ ಸಂತೋಷದಾಯಕ ನೃತ್ಯ ಚಲನೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ರಂಜಿಸಿದರು. ಶ್ರೀ ಹೆಗಡೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ, ನಾವು ಯುವ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಇಂತಹ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು, ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ನೃತ್ಯ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ನಾವು ಯುಗಾದಿಯನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಏಕೆ ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ? ಯಾವ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದ ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಯಾವುವು? ಈ ಎಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ರೀನಾರವರು ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಿದ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯುಕ್ತ ವೀಡಿಯೊ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿತು; ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಯುಗ – ಆದಿ (ಹೊಸ ವರ್ಷ) ಹಬ್ಬದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಅರಿವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿತು. ಮುಂದೆ, ಸಿಂಹ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಉತ್ತಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ಸ್ವರಗಳ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಯಿಂದ ಸಭೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂತೋಷಪಟ್ಟರು. ಗುಂಪು ಹಾಡಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಆಚರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಂದು ಕ್ರಿಯಾತ್ಮಕ ಗುಂಪು “ಚೆಲ್ಲಿದರು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯಾ” ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಮಧುರ ಜಾನಪದ ಗೀತೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ರಂಜಿಸಿತು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಮೊದಲು ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದ ಕಲಾ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಕಾನ್ಸುಲರ್ ಜನರಲ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುವಾಗ ತುಂಬಿ ತುಳುಕುತ್ತಿರುವ ಯುವ ಮುಖಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದು ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಸಂತೋಷಕರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪುಟಾಣಿ ದೀಪಾಂಜಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಗಳನ್ನು ವೀಡಿಯೊ ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿದಳು. ನಮ್ಮ ಶಾಂಘೈ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಕುಟುಂಬದಿಂದ ಅಂತಹ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ ಕಲಾವಿದರನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವುದು ಅದೃಷ್ಟದಾಯಕವಾಗಿದೆ. ದೇವರು ಈ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ಯಲು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಸೋಣ. ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಮೋಹಿನಿ ಅವರು ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ತುಂಬಾ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಕಾರಣವಾದ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಔಪಚಾರಿಕ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ, ಸದಾಶಿವರವರು ತನ್ನ ನಿರೂಪಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗಿರಕಿ ಹೊಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಒಂದು ಮಾತು “ಬಾಳೆ ಎಲೆ” ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಸಕಲ ಸಿದ್ದತೆಗಳು ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದ್ದವು.
ಸೀಮಿತ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಆಸನಗಳಿಂದಾಗಿ, ಒಂದು ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಸುಮಾರು 28-30 ಜನರ ಪಂಕ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಊಟವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಮೊದಲು ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಬಾಳೆಎಲೆ ಹರಡಲಾಯಿತು ಮತ್ತು ನಂತರ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳು ಒಂದೊಂದಾಗಿ ಬಂದವು: ಶಾವಿಗೆ ಪಾಯಸ, ಉಪ್ಪು, ಉಪ್ಪಿನಕಾಯಿ, ಕೋಸುಂಬರಿ, ಪಲ್ಯ, ಸಾಗು, ಪೂರಿ, ಹಪ್ಪಳ, ಪುಳಿಯೋಗರೆ, ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ ಭಜ್ಜಿ, ಅನ್ನ, ಸಾಂಬಾರ್, ರಸಂ, ಕಡಬು, ಮೊಸರು, ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತಿಮವಾಗಿ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದ, ಉತ್ತಮ ಮಜ್ಜಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಲಾಯಿತು. ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿರೀಯರು ಹೇಳುವಂತೆ “ತುಂಬಿದ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯು ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಹೃದಯ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ದಾರಿಯಾಗುವದು”, ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಸಂತೃಪ್ತವಾಗಿ ಊಟಮಾಡಿದರು. ಊಟ ಬಡಿಸುವಿಕೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನನಗೆ ಆಸಕ್ತಿದಾಯಕವಾಗಿ ಕಂಡುಬಂದದ್ದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನು ಬಡಿಸಲು ನಿಯೋಜಿಸಿದ್ದರು, ಯಾವುದೇ ಅವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಮೊದಲ ಪಂಕ್ತಿಯವರು ಊಟ ಮುಗಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಶ್ರೀ ಗಂಗಾಧರ್ ಕೆಳಗಿನ ಮಹಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗಿ ಕೈತೊಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಘೋಷಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು, ಅದು ಮುಂದಿನ ಪಂಕ್ತಿಗೆ ದಾರಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡಲು ಒಂದು ಮೃದುವಾದ ವಿನಂತಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಅಂತಿಮವಾಗಿ ಭೋಜನವನ್ನು 3 ಪಂಕ್ತಿಗಳ್ಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದೆವು. ಒಂದು ಅದ್ಭುತ ಆತ್ಮ-ಸಂತೃಪ್ತಿ.
ಅದ್ಭುತ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರ ತಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುವ ಮೂಲಕ ನಾನು ಈ ಬರಹವನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಲಿಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಇಡೀ ಯುಗಾದಿ ಆಚರಣೆಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಅದ್ಭುತವಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಸಂತೋಷಕರ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಶಾಂಘೈ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ತರಲು ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ತುಂಬಾ ಶ್ರಮಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಸೂಕ್ತ ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವುದರಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು, ಊಟದ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ (ಮಯೂರ್, ವಿವೇಕ್, ಸಂದೀಪಶಾಸ್ತ್ರೀ), ಬ್ಯಾನರ್ (ಪ್ರಜ್ವಲ್), ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆ ಪ್ರಚಾರಕ (ವಿವೇಕ್), ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಯನ್ನು ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸುವುದು (ಮೋಹಿನಿ, ವಿಟ್ಟಲ್ ಮಲ್ಯ), ಅತಿಥಿ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹಣಕಾಸು ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ( ಸದಾಶಿವ, ಸತೀಶ್, ರೀನಾ, ಅನಿತಾ), ಬಾಳೆಎಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಬಾಳೆಹಣ್ಣು ಕೊಳ್ಳುವಿಕೆ (ಮಯೂರ್), ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ಅಲಂಕರಿಸುವುದು (ಗಿರೀಶ್, ಅರವಿಂದ್, ರೀನಾ, ವಿಕಾಸ್, ಶ್ರುತಿ, ರುತ್ವಿಕ್), ಮನರಂಜನಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ (ರೀನಾ, ಮಂಜುನಾಥ್), ನೋಂದಣಿ (ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್, ಶ್ರುತಿ), ನಿರೂಪಣೆ (ಸದಾಶಿವ, ಅಪರ್ಣ), ಫೋಟೋಗ್ರಫಿ (ಪ್ರಜ್ವಲ್, ಚರಣ್ ), ವೇದಿಕೆ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ (ಸಚಿನ್, ರೂಪೇಶ), ಸಭಿಕರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಿಕೆ (ಮಹೇಶ್ , ಗಂಗಾಧರ). ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಣಿವರಿಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ ಇಡೀ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕ ತಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು! ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಯುಗಾದಿ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು!
