Venue: CONSULATE HALL OF CGI SHANGHAI, NO. 2201 WEST YAN’AN ROAD, SHANGHAI

Thanks and Appreciation to Rishab Shetty and team for approving to screen the movie.

Shanghai Kannadigaru, along with the fantastic support of the Indian Consulate screened the National award-winning Kannada movie “Sarkari Hiriya Praathamika Shaale, Kasaragodu” on Nov.6th. The theme of the movie, in a way, resonates with the purpose of Shanghai Kannadigaru, to protect & promote Kannada language and culture in a land outside the state of Karnataka. The staff at Indian consulate were kind enough to let the Kannada group use the 70-seater room for the movie. The room itself was well decorated, with paintings of various Indian heritage site, had a big screen and camera.

Although scheduled at 10:30am, the movie screening got delayed to 11am as the attendees reached late due the bad weather and weekend traffic. After the crowd settled down, Sandeep welcomed the crowd, and spoke a few words on Puneeth Rajkumar, who had shockingly passed away recently. He requested all of us to stand up for a 1-minute silent prayer for the departed soul. Puneeth was a Kannada Industry super star, epitome of humility, a highly active member in social service fraternity, supporting plenty of families through donations and charities. We prayed for everyone, his loss was humongous and impacted lot of people directly.

The movie soon started; it was thoroughly entertaining. There was lot of humor in the first half. Although the dialect was more of Kannada spoken in coastal Karnataka, the assembled folks could understand it mostly and laughed heartily. The screenplay was fantastic showcasing a divine view of Kasargod from various angles. The flora and fauna, the local culture and ethos was all so well captured. There was an intermission mid-way, and guests were served yummy popcorn. As it was already lunch time, volunteers decided to also distribute the lunch. The lunch came from Rangoli Indian restaurant, across the street. Everyone acknowledged it was very good, with great taste and appropriate quantity. Paratha, jeera rice, mix veg curry, dal, pakodas and sheera (sweet), it was a complete delightful meal.

The second half soon started, and it now became bit serious, although continuing the comedy from time to time. Anant Nag finally came on the screen and he was commendable, as always. The actor in negative role had also done phenomenal acting. The movie finally ended with a good note, with the Kannada school able to re-open with more vibrance. After the movie, Mohini thanked everyone, especially the folks at Indian consulate who took out time from their weekend to let the folks watch at this wonderful consulate space. A group photo was taken, as a fond remembrance of the event, a day well spent with Shanghai Kannadigaru family.
